06/10/2014 Bill Gates had met with two Monash students:  Jarrel Seah (CCS BMedSc(Hons) student) and Jennifer Tang (Pictured right) who developed an app that allows users to self-screen for anaemia by taking a ‘selfie’ of their eye.  Gates said that he could see a future version of Eyenaemia being used in developing countries, especially with pregnant women, since anaemia contributes to nearly 20 percent of deaths during pregnancy.

06/10/2014 Prof Robyn O'Hehir, Head of the Department of Allergy, Immunology and Respiratory medicine (AIRmed) commented on effective treatments for hay fever.  She said that the warmer the temperatures, the more pollens are dumped in melbourne and sufferers could use anti-histamines, nasal sprays and eye drops that are available from chemists for relief.

07/10/2014 Professor Christopher Fairley, Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC), commented on the  the link between alcohol consumption and HPV.  He  believes the vaccine is probably going to eliminate the risk of the infection in young people, just as small pox disappeared. He also said that the Australian recommendation is less than two drinks a day or less than four drinks on any one occasion but one would have to drink substantially more than that before it affects the immune system.
